  1. Pass the parcel

    Before the party prepare a parcel consisting of a main prize wrapped in multiple layers of paper. Each layer may also contain a smaller prize. The children all sit in a circle on the floor and when the music is played, the parcel is passed around the circle from child to child. Each time the music stops, the child who is holding the parcel may remove one layer. The game continues until the last layer is removed and the main prize is won.

  2. Wrap the mummy

    Divide the kids into pairs, with one the Mummy and the other the Mummy Wrapper, and give each wrapper a toilet roll. On the word "Go!" have the wrappers race to see who can wrap up their mummy first.

  3. Hot potato

    Have all the players sit in a circle. Quickly pass a potato from player to player. Then a leader whilst looking away shouts out "Hot Potato", and whoever is holding the potato is out. Continue to play until there is only one person left, and they are the winner.

  4. Pin the tail on the donkey

    Draw or paint a picture of the back of a donkey without the tail on a big piece of paper or card draw on a big "x" where the tail should be, also paint a separate tail that will be pinned on or use blu tac. Each player is blindfolded in turn and lead to the donkey, spin them round 3 times, then they have to "pin the tail on the donkey". The one who has put their tail closest to the "x" is the winner. Either make different tails for each guest or mark the spot with their name.

  5. Simon says

    Instruct the players to do a number of things starting with "Simon says" hop on one foot, clap your hands, run round in circles, stand still, jump up and down etc. If you instruct the players without saying "Simon says" first and they still do as you have asked, they are out. The last one remaining is the winner.

  6. What time is it Mr Wolf?

    The child who is Mr Wolf has to stand at one end of the room facing away from all the others. The children creep up on the wolf shouting "what time is it Mr Wolf?" Mr Wolf shouts back 1 o'clock, half past 3, 7 o'clock etc. but when he shouts "dinner time" all the children run. The one caught then becomes the wolf, and so on.

  7. Egg and spoon race

    Decide on a start and finish line, this could be a straight race or circuits of the garden. Place an egg on a spoon, the first one to the finishing line wins still holding the egg on the spoon without it falling off. You could use small potatoes or ping pong balls.

  8. Keep the balloon in the air

    Give each child a round blown up balloon, write their name on the balloon to stop any arguments, also give each child a piece of A4 card, all they have to do is keep their balloon in the air the longest, wafting it with the card. The player whose balloon stays in the air the longest is the winner.

  9. Musical bumps

    All the players have to run, jump, skip, hop etc. whilst the music plays, when the music stops they have to sit on the floor as quickly as possible the last one to sit down is out. Continue until you have a winner.

  10. Musical chairs

    Line up alternate facing chairs, one less than the number of children playing. The players move round the chairs while the music is playing. When the music stops they have to sit down on a free chair, the player without a chair is out, take away one chair each time, repeat until you have 2 players and 1 chair the one to sit down first is the winner.
